1 in 4 teens who are sexually active get an STD	BACKGROUND There is a mind set in society that it is impossible to live without having sexual intercourse, and waiting for sex until marriage is not possible. As a result of this belief we as a society have seen a rise among single parents, a growing presence of irresponsible males, an increase of sexually transmitted diseases, broken hearts, lack of respectful communication between males and females, and a breakdown in the family structure. This proposal for abstinence training is being presented as a result of your organization's programming and/or involvement with young males, females or both, to strengthen the family structure through principals of abstinence. SUMMARY The family is the primary institution through which we protect and nurture our children. We must focus more of our time and resources on preventive measures to prepare our youth to handle the difficulties of the world. We will continue to see a rise in teen pregnancy, if we continue to only promote "safe sex" methods. We have an obligation to America to provide sufficient resources and time to promote abstinence education.
